June Updates

It has been an incredibly fun and busy month here at Arohanui, filled with anticipation and creative energy as we geared up for our highly anticipated Masquerade Ball. The weeks leading up to the big event were a whirlwind of preparation, and I loved getting hands-on with all the details. I spent time helping craft some of the unique masks. We’ve baked batches of special cupcakes, and strung up fairy lights to make sure the venue looked absolutely magical. When the big day finally arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, and all of that hard work truly paid off.

The ball itself was a spectacular, unforgettable day where everyone dressed to impress. The women looked absolutely stunning in their pretty ball gowns, and the men looked exceptionally sharp in their suits and ties. We were lucky to have a brilliant DJ named Mark, who brought fantastic energy. One of the highlights of the night was the arrival of two mystery guests; we all had a wonderful time trying to guess who they were before they revealed themselves as Cassie and Maree, our lovely former staff members! It was such a heartwarming surprise. We celebrated the reunion and danced the night away, treating ourselves to delicious blue mocktails, savouries, and a cupcake.

Between all the party planning, I also made sure to find time for relaxation and creativity. I thoroughly enjoyed getting pampered with soothing foot spas, which were the perfect way to unwind. Our regular music practices were another major highlight this month; I have been absolutely loving playing the little ukuleles, though my absolute favorite part of music time is still getting up and dancing to the beat. The musical fun continued on the last Tuesday of the month when we received a special guest appearance from an amazing Brass Band. Hearing their powerful live music and seeing all the impressive instruments up close was a truly cool experience that had everyone smiling.

In addition to all the excitement at Arohanui, I have been working hard at the Bridge Community Centre Op Shop. I take my responsibilities there very seriously, and I have officially become the resident expert at testing out the chairs for comfort, while also helping to neatly sort through the various fabrics. It is incredibly rewarding work, and it rounds out what has been a truly fantastic month. From glamorous dances and live music to community volunteering and cozy foot spas, it has been a month to remember, and I am already looking forward to whatever adventures next month brings.
